Millhaven is a residential subdivision in Styx Mill on the northern edge of Christchurch, developed by Avanda. Comprising approximately 57 residential sections, the neighbourhood sits alongside the Styx Mill Conservation Reserve, with the surrounding green spaces helping shape the character and identity of the development.
DCM was involved in the landscape and urban design of the wider subdivision, helping establish a cohesive landscape character through the streetscape, planting and entrance treatment. Our involvement also included the design of Millhaven Playground, developed as a neighbourhood play space with a strong focus on nature play, accessibility and providing opportunities for children of different ages and abilities.
Completed in 2023, the playground provides a safe and inviting space for imaginative, social and active play, while forming part of the wider landscape approach for Millhaven. Together, the streetscape, entrance and recreational spaces help give the subdivision a distinct identity and create a welcoming environment for the growing neighbourhood.
