The New Brighton Mall Redevelopment reimagines the heart of New Brighton as a more welcoming, active and flexible public space for the local community. DCM worked closely with Greater New Brighton and the wider community through the consultation process, helping shape a design that responded to local ideas and aspirations for the area.
The redevelopment centres around a large village green, supported by spaces for market stalls, cafés and restaurants, and a stage and performance area. Improvements to the surrounding buildings and public realm, including refreshed colours and finishes, were also incorporated to strengthen the identity of the mall and bring more activity into the centre. DCM developed the overall design and prepared a visual package including plans, rendered illustrations and a detailed 3D flythrough animation.
The project creates a stronger community focus for central New Brighton, bringing together recreation, events, hospitality and everyday public life. The plans and visualisations also helped communicate the design to the wider community and support the redevelopment of the mall as a more connected and engaging local destination.
