Ngāi Tahu Property Limited and Lincoln University have been working on the initial stages of Te Whāriki subdivision as a joint venture since 2007. In 2019 DCM were commissioned by Ngāi Tahu Property to undertake the urban design and landscape architectural design of the final stage of the development, Stage 4. By this time the earlier stages of the subdivision were well developed and had a strong existing character, focusing on the restoration of the waterways which feed Te Waihora (Lake Ellesmere).

DCM worked closely with Ngāi Tahu Property to build on and develop this character throughout Stage 4, which included a number of reserves and a playground servicing the wider Lincoln area.

DCM produced an extensive package for this project, covering the master planning, streetscape and landscape design for Stage 4. This included approximately 400 residential sections, a major playground reserve with a playground, basketball half court and cycle training course; and extensive native plantings surrounding springs and waterways.
